Reissue of their elusive 1970 one and only album of heavy acid rock. Specially re-packaged and re-mastered. Big guitar riffs and heavy hammond organs accompany brooding rock vocals. Interesting, different, dark, gloomy, funny, heavy, progressive, acoustic, man this album's got it all. Above all, it is a pretty heavy progressive album with a couple light acoustic songs and a few insane rockers with cool riffs battling organs. Not only that, the singer is Leslie West's brother, Larry singing over the mahem. He sounds like his brother mixed with MC5 vocalist Rob Tyner with that gravelly, deep roar. He demonstrates this best on "The Children Of Heaven," a unique song that fills the bill of almost all of the characteristics listed above. While it may not be the best song on the album, it is the most unique and invents its own style; truly a sound to be heard. Great lyric on the track, "Riverland": "Riverland where life is grand and wars are fought with loud rock bands." This must be where they recorded this album. In essence, Haystacks Balboa is almost like an American response to Krautrock proving that the US has a few bands that know how to play freaky, weird, progressive rock.
