Direto de Neustadt an der Donau, na Baviera, o obscuríssimo JAM foi formado por jovens amigos de escola e deixou apenas este compacto independente em 1970, antes de desaparecer praticamente sem deixar rastros!!

São apenas duas faixas, mas que veneno!! “World Is Satisfied” e “Friends” mergulham num heavy psych lento, sombrio e melancólico, daquele tipo que hoje também costuma ser chamado de downer rock. As influências passavam por Cream, Jimi Hendrix e o então novíssimo Black Sabbath, mas o resultado tem personalidade própria, com guitarras pesadas, clima obscuro e passagens que flertam com o nascente hard rock alemão.

O compacto virou uma verdadeira peça de garimpo e permaneceu enterrado durante décadas, até ganhar sua primeira reedição oficial pela Ancient Grease Records em 2022.

Pouquíssima música, pouquíssima informação e muita obscuridade. Eexatamente o tipo de coisa que procuramos nos subterrâneos do rock!!

Straight out of Neustadt an der Donau, Bavaria, the mysterious JAM was formed by young school friends and left behind only this privately released 1970 single before virtually disappearing without a trace!!

Just two tracks, but what a poison!! “World Is Satisfied” and “Friends” deliver a dark, slow and gloomy dose of heavy psych, the kind of sound often described today as downer rock. Influenced by Cream, Jimi Hendrix and the newly emerging Black Sabbath, JAM created a raw and heavy atmosphere with an unmistakable early-'70s underground feel.

The original 7" became an extremely obscure collectors' item and remained buried for decades until Ancient Grease Records gave it its first official reissue in 2022.

Two songs, almost no history and tons of obscurity — exactly the kind of stuff we love digging out from the underground!!

UM POUCO MAIS SOBRE O JAM

O JAM era um grupo obscuro da Baviera, Alemanha Ocidental, mais precisamente de Neustadt an der Donau. Segundo a própria Ancient Grease, eram garotos muito jovens e lançaram de forma independente, em 1970, apenas este compacto com “World Is Satisfied” / “Friends”. A gravadora descreve o registro como um exemplo de Bavarian downer rock, com duas faixas carregadas de uma atmosfera escura e melancólica.

O grupo foi formado por amigos de escola, então com aproximadamente 16–17 anos, influenciados por Cream, Jimi Hendrix e Black Sabbath. Isso ajuda bastante a entender o som: não é krautrock experimental no sentido de Can ou Faust, mas um heavy psych sombrio, lento e bastante cru, já apontando para aquele peso que começava a aparecer no início dos anos 70.

O compacto original foi uma edição independente de 1970, catalogada como 1417, e aparentemente foi o único lançamento da banda. Décadas depois, “World Is Satisfied” apareceu em compilações dedicadas ao obscuro underground psicodélico alemão, como Kraut-Bloody-Rageous!.

Em 2022, a especializada Ancient Grease Records finalmente fez a primeira reedição oficial do compacto, catálogo AGR-007. A própria gravadora informa explicitamente que se tratava da primeira reedição daquele raríssimo 7". Uma crítica da época descreveu o JAM como uma espécie de encontro entre Black Sabbath e Jethro Tull numa viagem particularmente sombria, destacando inclusive passagens de harmônica e flauta. 

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT JAM

JAM was an obscure group from Bavaria, West Germany, more precisely from Neustadt an der Donau. According to Ancient Grease itself, the members were very young and independently released this single in 1970, featuring “World Is Satisfied” / “Friends”. The label describes the record as an example of Bavarian downer rock, with two tracks wrapped in a dark and melancholic atmosphere.

The group was formed by school friends who were around 16–17 years old at the time, influenced by Cream, Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath. That background helps explain the sound quite well: this is not experimental krautrock in the vein of Can or Faust, but rather a dark, slow and very raw heavy psych sound, already pointing toward the heavier direction rock was beginning to take in the early 1970s.

The original single was an independent 1970 release, catalogued as 1417, and apparently remained the band's only release. Decades later, “World Is Satisfied” appeared on compilations devoted to the obscure German psychedelic underground, including Kraut-Bloody-Rageous!.

In 2022, specialist label Ancient Grease Records finally issued the first official reissue of the single, catalogue number AGR-007. The label itself explicitly states that this was the first reissue of the extremely rare 7". One contemporary review described JAM as something like Black Sabbath meeting Jethro Tull on a particularly dark trip, also highlighting passages of harmonica and flute.
